The agent is made of two main components having their own binary, configuration and log files. (A third one, Script Monitor, allows you to configure reactions to alerts. Although it is included in the agent package, it is not involved in the collection process.)

 Collector:

  • Collects the metrics
  • Answers to queries for real time information sent by client applications (Consoles…)
  • Sends alerts and stores metrics and alerts into history files (write into history files)

File Server:

  • Answer queries for historical information from client applications (Consoles, SP Portal Collector, Management Server API and so forth) and remotely configures other modules part of the agent (Modification of the Collector’s configuration, update of events and entities definition files)
